Progression?

Postby Jahgo » Wed Sep 03, 2003 5:41 pm

And just because I can, a comparison between art drawn by me back in 2001, and art drawn by me in 2003.

Alright, the first picture is an example of what I was drawing like nearly three years ago. One of my first attempts at humor in art, it relies on an old gag that had been used before and has been used since, more recently in a picture drawn for ROGUE by BigBlueFox. Seeing BBF's interpretation of the gag was very refreshing, as he had applied it far better then I could hope to. A few days after seeing it I felt a strong urge to pic up the pencil and try a new version, to see how far I'd come since that first picture.

Since the idea was already used and put in a spot where most would see it, I felt it necessary to put a slightly different spin on the gag. Before it was always set in the stomach of a large creature. For being unable to not contemplate what would happen if the prey found his way out of the predators stomach, I set the gag in a different spot. Yes, I do have a messed sense of humour, so consider yourself warned before you scroll down and look. And yes, I do have BBF's permission to share it. Both pictures feature his giant coyote character, Snirf. Enjoy!

Yeah, theres definately a great deal of improvement between the two.

Whilst the first is not in itself bad at all, the second is a decent improvement and looks great.
i like all the little extras, 'no loitering' etc.

Though, i have to ask...
What is this deal with starbucks?

Thanks guys ^.^

Tomby, you've come pretty far with your work, which is really impressive considering your's is done on computer and you've been at it for less then a year. Cerberus, you were great when you first started out on Lofty, and still you've managed to improve in your methods since then. Maybe both of you should consider redrawing one of your older pieces to see how the styles have changed. What do you say? :D

Oh, and Starbucks is one of a few coffee shop franchises that's fairly popular down in the states, some would go so far as to say that these little coffee joints are showing up everywhere. I wanted a 'coming soon' sign that most would be able to enjoy, and 'Coming soon: Starbucks' was the first thing to come to mind. Otherwise, I really don't know what the deal with Starbucks is Cerb.

Actually I was thinking of doing just that sometime. Just gotta go over some o' my older stuff and pick something I wouldn't mind drawing over again. Yah got a point though. I've only been drawing for 7 months now.
