Scam alert!

Postby flitchard » Wed Aug 03, 2011 4:51 am

I got a call today from some people claiming to be with a computer service.
I synched with their comp, and, when I couldn't pay their RIDICULOUS price, I caught the yahoo trying to delete my stuff!

Watch out for these guys, they really put me in a panic!

I don't think you should give people direct access to your computer just because they call you...

Sorry, but that was kinda stupid.
You basically gave people you don´t know and which are obviously deceivers access to your HD and all thats on it for no reason at all. I mean you don´t let people on the street peek in your wallet if they ask you to, do you?
Back to how much I rule...

Yeah, it WAS dumb of me, but they did a great job of putting me in a panic, first... My comp has already broken twice, and it's EXPENSIVE to fix...

Maybe if you didn't let random assholes have remote access to your computer, and generally learned a thing or two about the expensive piece of electronics you own, you wouldn't have it break and require expensive repairs.

It's not hard, people.

In addition, any repairs done remotely must be all software-related.

Calling it now: For 99% of computer-owning consumers out there, you should never ever ever ever pay for software repairs. There's free tools better than whatever the hell Geek Squad uses, you have Google at your fingertips, and you're not entrusting all your personal information and sensitive data to a sweaty 16-year-old kid who hates his job.

geek squad is a bunch of conniving con artists.

i needed my comp reformated a while back but didnt have the disk, so i took it to them to see if they could just reinstall windows for me with a master disk or something. they wanted 75 bucks, and i had to supply the reformat disk, and they didnt install drivers or updates for me.

so they wanted 75 bucks to press 3 buttons and wait 20 minutes <_< and they tried to use a bunch of nonsensical technobabble to confuse me and make me think it was more complicated than it was. I had fun telling them off

Woahhhh there, buddy. I think you're a little oversimplifying it.

We're talking at least 4 "Next" or "I Agree" buttons, here.

Wow, Geek Squad seriously charged you that much, just for that? Eesh, at least I know not to trust them now. Not that I really need them, as I am lucky enough to have a sexy little computer geek wrapped around my finger. X3
