How do you deal with depression?

Postby SpencerEmu » Mon May 09, 2011 5:21 am

How do you deal with feeling a bit empty from time to time? Like with those nights, when it's really quiet, and the silence is.....earsplitting....
and when the roar of a crowd of people at a party is safety, to keep away the internal voice.

When you'd give anything just to feel a little bleeding, When you lie awake watching car accidents on youtube, and national disasters unfold. When all your drawings turn into the visual equivalent of your nightmares. When there is no point of view anymore, when it's just an objectivity, and illusion.

When thinking about jumping off the roof of your house is relief to any pain you're feeling. When you go to basically, a porn site, and post in one of it's forums all the ugliest shit about yourself, that'll probably get you kicked off, because there is nothing in this world. It's all one big GIANT MACRO mind-fuck. When we're all honestly just walking corpses, with ticking clocks, and countdowns to the end.

Going for a walk is good, but I live in a parky area, and can't imagine it to relaxing walking at night through new York Streets, maybe write/read a
book or do a hobby?

Those can work, anything to distract you...

If you're having suicidal ideation you really should tell someone. The situation may not get better on it's own.

Rattus has some good advice here... I'd follow it...

My ideas are only for mild, if it is really serious, do see someone.

If you're feeling nauseous, you don't go and smell dead fish and public toilets. If you have a headache, you don't bash your head into a wall and if you have a massively oversized nose you don't put fish-hooks into it and tie the lines to the saddles on two horses and slap the horses hard with a red hot poker.

If you're depressed, what you do is realise it and then try and take some medicine for it. What you certainly don't do is spend time by yourself looking at depressing and violent things and you really, really don't kill time looking at violent porn either (including macros snuffing micros). If you want to get better you learn to spot the signs of your depression and think to yourself that this isn't you, it's an illness, and you have to make a great effort to go and do things that occupy you and divert you. You don't pander to your dark feelings or bad urges, you don't wallow in them, you find a friend, tell them exactly how you're feeling and ask for a bit of help - a chat, go out and hang out, do something nice together. Failing that, you go and find something productive to do to get lost in. Drawing, writing, making, fixing or building something.

If you start treating the feelings that come with depression as genuine and sincere, you're in trouble. They're no more a part of you or deserving of attention than the dehydration that can cause headaches or your stomach reacting to bad food.

This is all easier said than done, but it does work.

From someone who knows, the best way is to simply find something to do. If you sit around feeling sorry, doing something dumb starts to look
PRETTY good... Seeking help can be good, but make sure it's someone you trust to be gentle, it can take only one bad statement, to ruin your mood...
Who's the most remarkable, extraordinary fellow?

YOU!!!
