Narzain going under the knife

Yeah, I'd say this qualifies as collateral damage. Or I do, not sure which...

Well, it turns out this old lynx has a bum ticker. Specifically, part of the heart muscle is too thick, which restricts blood flow, and generally contributes to me feeling lousy when I try to do much of anything. This was recently diagnosed, and I was referred to a specialist at the Cleveland Clinic for a barrage of tests. The outcome: surgery.

On May 5, I'll be having open heart surgery to shave down the thickened muscle. They're going right in through the middle of my chest, so I'll be in the hospital for about 5-7 days, then out of commission for 6 weeks. Hopefully I'll get internet back into my home by then; otherwise, I'll post an update when I can physically get back to the library.

I'm in good hands (one of the best surgeons in the country for this condition, plus, hey, the Cleveland Clinic), and my age is supposedly working for me, so the prognosis is good. But of course I'm terrified; this is my first (and hopefully only) surgery.

Wish me luck!

Heh. I like your way of looking at things.

Thanks for the well-wishes! I'm holding my brain together pretty well so far. We'll see how that fares next week with the pre-op tests & interviews.

Or whatever music suits your taste really, anything works. ;)

Sounds like things are covered pretty well though, so hopefully we get the good news of a successful surgery before too long.

That's what I'm hoping for. It'll be at least a week after the surgery before I'll be anywhere near the possibility of online access. Depends on whether I manage to beat an ISP into submission in time; otherwise I'll have to wait until I can physically get to a library.

And I'm back. The surgery went smoothly, even with two bypasses (they didn't even have to take out as much as they thought). Everybody at the hospital was fantastic. And I'm recovering nicely so far. I just get tired a lot more quickly now. 'Scuse me, I'm gonna go take a nap...
